Project Overview

The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) spearheaded the creation of the #YouthWagingPeace guidebook in December 2017. This comprehensive resource addresses the critical nexus between education and preventing violent extremism (PVE), incorporating insights from over 2000 youth submissions and 150 case studies from 50+ countries.

Problem Statement

Violent extremism poses a significant threat to global peace and stability, particularly among youth populations. Traditional approaches to combating extremism often neglect the potential of education as a preventative measure. There is a pressing need for accessible and actionable guidelines that empower educators, policymakers, and community leaders to effectively address this challenge

Our Approach

To tackle this challenge, we adopted a multi-faceted approach. First, we collaborated with youth educators and practitioners worldwide to gather diverse perspectives and case studies. Then, we integrated this wealth of knowledge into a comprehensive guidebook. Our innovative design, featuring a blend of icons and watercolors, enhances readability and engagement, ensuring the guide’s accessibility to a wide audience. This holistic approach aims to equip stakeholders with practical tools and strategies to promote peace and resilience in their communities.
